End of Summer

Ok I know the end of summer was a week ago but I haven't had a chance to post. So here is my official end of summer post! I was able to finish this amazing quilt with Early Bird fabric by Bonnie and Camille for Moda. Once I saw this line of fabric I fell in love with the adorable birds and the cute floral patterns. Here is a shot of the finished quilt in front of my lemon wreath which I now have to take down and replace with my fall décor. It just looked so cheery.

I told my husband one night while I was in my sewing room to RUN! The sunset is perfect to take a picture of my quilt. He was thrilled to hold this quilt while I attempted to take about 50 pictures to get the perfect sunset. Whew, I got a pretty good one but the sun went down so fast so it wasn't exactly what I had pictured. He is a good sport though!

I used this free pattern by Moda with a layer cake. Moda-Love-Layer-Cake-Quilt.pdf (modafabrics.com). The top went together so quickly and was easy measuring 72 x 72. I think the thing that took the longest was deciding where to lay out each color and decide which couple pieces of fabric I wasn't able to use. I paired it with the aqua dot fabric for the background and I used the navy vintage birds for the background fabric. For the binding I used the red stripe because, well it is a stripe and I can't say no to a stripe! It turned out so great! The quilting pattern that I used was alternating loops on my HQ Amara Long Arm with grey Glide thread.
