Barn Quilts

My mother in law loves a lot of things but two of the things that she really loves are the Seahawks and Cougar football! So for her Christmas present last year I made her two barn quilts to hang in her house to represent her two big loves. Her birthday is today and I don't have anything nearly as nice to gift her, hence the lookback at a time where I had a second to make someone something.

I started out by searching on Pinterest for barn quilts. I found the patterns that I wanted to copy and then figured out the math based on the size of my final quilt and voila!

This is how I drew it out on the boards. They are unfinished 2x4's that we had laying around from another project and once I got my pattern down on the boards I labeled them with the color of paint that I was going to use so that I didn't get lost in the pattern and mess the whole thing up. Once I had it all labeled I taped it off with painters tape and let each color dry before moving onto the next color so that I didn't have any bleeding over and could make pretty crisp lines. Not too shabby for my first try at a barn quilt!
